PASSING STRANGE RECEIVES SEVEN DRAMA DESK NOMINATIONS

New York – PASSING STRANGE this week was nominated for seven 2008 Drama Desk awards, including Outstanding Musical. Sundance's latest project to land on Broadway, PASSING STRANGE was cultivated at the 2004 and 2005 Sundance Institute Theatre Labs in Sundance, Utah.

The 53rd Annual Drama Desk Awards will be held Sunday, May 18, at 9:00 PM in the F.H. LaGuardia Concert Hall at Lincoln Center.

The nominations for PASSING STRANGE are:

  • Outstanding Musical
  • Outstanding Actor in a Musical
  • Outstanding Choreography
  • Outstanding Music
  • Outstanding Lyrics
  • Outstanding Book of a Musical
  • Outstanding Orchestrations

PASSING STRANGE is the third Sundance-supported production to go on to Broadway in the past year. Recently, the Institute supported the development of GREY GARDENS by Doug Wright, Scott Frankel and Michael Korie, and SPRING AWAKENING by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater. Part of the Sundance Institute founded by Robert Redford in 1981, the Sundance Institute Theatre Program supports emerging theatre artists and encourages the development of new work and creative growth from established artists.
