After the record-breaking sales of the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, Festival films are steadily rolling out for the summer. This month, escape the heat—in theaters or on the couch—and catch four brand-new Festival releases.
If you’re looking for a multi-award-winner, look no further than Pippa Bianco’s Share; it came out of the Festival with both a U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for achievement in acting and the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award. It follows high-school sophomore Mandy, who discovers that a series of cell-phone videos of her—half-dressed and semiconscious—have gone viral. She is left to grapple with the consequences, reeling at how quickly the normalcy of her life has been upended.
Another Festival film that walked away with multiple awards is the heartbreaking doc Honeyland, about Macedonia’s last beekeeper. It won our World Cinema Grand Jury Prize, a Special Jury Award for cinematography, and a Special Jury Award for impact for change—so you know it’s going to be a beautiful and powerful ride.
And to round out the list, be sure to hit the theaters for David Crosby: Remember My Name, an examination of the life of the famous two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, and The Farewell, a funny, uplifting tale based on an actual lie from director Lulu Wang’s own life.
