With every installment of the Sundance Film Festival comes the same challenge of capturing the scope of such a huge event. There’s so many things happening at any one time, and being able to document it as well share all these unique experiences is a tall order. Thankfully, this year it’s gotten a lot easier with the help of four things: a hashtag, an iPhone, an app, and you.
The iPhone App that’s going to help us, and help you, experience the Festival in a whole new way is called Instagram. It’s sort of a mini-social network that lives only on your iPhone and lets you snap, share, and view photos. You use Instagram’s built in function to snap a photo, choose a filter to transform the look and feel, and then post to Facebook, Twitter, or Flickr. The coolest feature is the in-app feed where you can see the photos of people you follow and “Like” or comment on them. It’s this easy create/consume model that has turned Instagram into a large and fervent community and has done it fast; going from 1 million to 15 million users in the matter of a year, with an average of 60 photos uploaded every second!
That’s a lof of photos to go through in order to find ones from the Sundance Film Festival. And that’s where you come in.
#Sundance
If you’re attending the Festival, we invite you to capture your experience with Instagram and hashtag each photo with #sundance. Make sure to Geotag your photo in the app so that people can see where in Park City the photo was taken. That way, everyone can easily find photos of the Sundance Film Festival and see where they were shot. Not only that, but we’ll be sharing our favorite #Sundance Instagram photos on our feed as well as on the Festival website.
If you don’t have the app on your iPhone yet, don’t wait and download it now, then follow us at username sundanceinstitute. That way when you hit Park City you’ll be able to start Instagraming your heart away and able to see what we’re sharing; which might include some of your own #sundance pics.
Speaking of which, here’s a sample of some of the great #sundance photos already being posted to Instagram. Looks like you have some catching up to do.
