Earlier this evening the Gotham Film & Media Institute held their annual Gotham Awards and we’re over the moon that Sundance-supported projects nabbed two major trophies.
Celine Song — one of our upcoming honorees at the Opening Night gala — and her debut feature Past Lives nabbed the top prize of Best Feature. Past Lives won out above A Thousand and One, a fellow 2023 Sundance Film Festival feature, but the film’s director A.V. Rockwell was honored as 2023’s Breakthrough Director.
This is a full circle moment for Rockwell who worked on A Thousand and One through several Sundance Labs and won the U.S. Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic at the 2023 Film Festival. Earlier this year we caught up with Rockwell about her experiences at the labs, as well as premiering the Feature Film Program–supported A Thousand and One at the Sundance Film Festival, read about her experience here.
Congratulations to all the Gotham Award winners!
