The 2025 Sundance Film Festival is kicking off and the Oscar nominations have dropped on the same day. Cinema is winning right now!
As we dive into this year’s Fest, we are excited to toast films from Sundance Institute artist programs and last year’s 2024 Festival lineup that have made a huge impact on cinema, earning nominations for the 97th Academy Awards.
Today, the Oscar nominations were announced in Beverly Hills by Rachel Sennott and Bowen Yang (both of whom are in films premiering at the 2025 Festival later this week), and we’re thrilled to see seven Sundance-supported films have gained eight nominations across the Writing (Original Screenplay), Actor in a Supporting Role, and Makeup and Hairstyling. Plus, we’re thrilled to see that every one of the five films nominated in the Documentary Feature Film category is a Sundance-supported project.
A Real Pain landed two nominations for Kieren Culkin’s incredible role and Jesse Eisenberg’s sharp and witty screenplay, A Different Man is nominated for the incredible makeup and hairstyling in the film, documentaries Black Box Diaries and Sugarcane are recognized, and more. Plus, our gala honorees (and Sundance Fest alums) have Oscar noms, too!
See the full list of Sundance-supported Oscar nominees below. We want to send our congratulations to the filmmakers and artists behind these films. Tune in and watch the Academy Awards on ABC or stream the show on Hulu Live TV, YouTubeTV, AT&T TV and FuboTV on March 2, 2025.
