We’re moving! You’ve been asking about our new home for the Sundance Film Festival starting in 2027 and we’re finally revealing the great news.

After a long search we’re thrilled to move to our future home beginning January 2027. Boulder offers small-town charm with an engaged community, distinctive natural beauty, and a vibrant arts scene, making it the ideal location for the Festival to grow.

We envision the heart of the Festival centered in downtown Boulder utilizing a wide array of theaters and venues, and incorporating spaces around the Pearl Street Mall, a pedestrian-only street. Nearby spaces will offer dedicated locations for our community to gather, including select spots on the nearby University of Colorado (CU) Boulder campus.
Now that we’ve announced our new location, you might be wondering what’s next. First, we’re excited to return to Park City, Utah, for the 2026 Sundance Film Festival (January 22–February 1). We’re looking forward to gathering once again, introducing audiences to the visionary artists and vital stories we’ll be talking about all year long.

This search for a new location for the Sundance Film Festival had a singular goal: to continue building upon the artist-centered, audience-engaging, and inviting experience that has been the heart of the Festival for over 40 years.
Park City, Utah, has been our home. However, in order to produce and continue to grow the Festival, we require more theaters and venues that can support our programming needs.
As we consider the long term of the Sundance Film Festival, our nonprofit is motivated by our commitment to ensuring that the Festival continues to thrive culturally, operationally, and financially as it has done for four decades.
Boulder will be the new home of the Sundance Film Festival starting in January 2027, with exact dates for that iteration of the Festival to come soon.
This move does not affect the 2026 Festival at all. Join us in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah January 22–February 1, 2026!
Boulder is the new permanent location for the annual Sundance Film Festival happening every January.
